Experiential Self-Leadership Workshop for Educators
We had a very successful LifeDreams training event of 14 participants from education and managment of Apprentis d'Auteuil from 15th November 2016 - 17th November 2016 at La Côte Saint André, France. The aim of this programme was to discover new avenues to support young people in finding their way into independence - personally, professionally and economically. The participants were incredibly motivated and we saw high participation in all the activities during the programme.
Founded in 1866 by Abbé Roussel Apprentis d'Auteuil builds support, educational, training and insertion programs. They've been committed to helping young people in distress for almost 150 years in France and more than 20 years worldwide. These actions enable 50,000 vulnerable young people and families worldwide to regain confidence and find their place in society every year. Apprentis d’Auteuil employs nearly 5,200 talented and dedicated staff across metropolitan France and its overseas territories, to educate and train young people in their 200 schools and centres.
In order to best support Apprentis d'Auteuil, we designed a bespoke programme tailored to their specific requirements which included: Experiential learning a the process of learning through experience or reflection. Experiential learning is distinct from the classic writing or didactic learning, in which the learner plays a passive role.
Accelerated learning tools are used by learners to work through big ideas, concepts or processes while demonstrating his or her thinking, planning and/or decision making on the way to creating, performing or responding to processes. Personal development it refers to activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, enhances quality of life and contributes to the realization of dreams and aspirations. It also refers to the methods, programs, tools, techniques, and assessment systems that support human development.
Cultural awareness is the ability of standing back from ourselves and becoming aware of our cultural values, beliefs and perceptions of ourselves first and others. It enables us to understand and appreciate how our culture has been conditioned, it impacts our perceptions & interactions with ourselves and others. Applied psychology is the use of methods and findings of scientific psychology to solve the practical problems of human behavior and experience.
A more precise definition is impossible because the activities of applied psychology range from laboratory experimentation, to field studies, to direct services for people. For us it is the direct service and the engagement with people. We believe that our programmes creates the platform for youth practitioners/ educators/ teachers to become more aware of their personal impact on the young people through their exercised attitudes and approaches through which they can support the youngsters - considering that their beneficiaries are hard to reach and have been often traumatised by the events in their life.
Embrace utilizes its LifeDreams Model to achieve this goal, the LifeDreams Model is an empowering and youth-led approach to finding one’s own strength, abilities and specialties, by understanding and dealing effectively with one’s barriers and obstacles you can set targets and make practical plans for the future. It provides various avenues of potential solutions and how to go about them in a well grounded fashion. It is core to our work and contributes to the high success rates of integration, inclusion and rehabilitation of young people going through our programmes
